Sensory Journey with the ANDE foundation

We bring the knowledge of the Universe to people with different intellectual disabilities.
21/05/2018
Schools or Universities are not the only ones to enjoy the Space Science Experiences at ESAC. We have a strong commitment against discrimination and we are happy to offer visits to different types centers. Everyone willing to learn about space science and space technology will be welcomed. Regardless of nationality, age or any possible disability, it is always a pleasure to bring science to those who want to learn about it.

Today we spent the morning with the ANDE Foundation. Thanks to the Sensory Science project, the Interplanetary Journey educational project and to ESAC's Cesar Project, 26 enthusiastic persons with different development disabilities visited today the facilities of the European Space Astronomy Center (ESAC). Michel Breitfellner, the CESAR coordinator, received them and presented the agency. They chatted about what ESA is and what kind of tasks are done at the European Space Astronomy Center. Then, Astronaut Lili invited the visitors to a sensory journey through space, to which everyone signed up without hesitation. After explaining some concepts about the Solar System and doing a brief physical training, everyone was ready for the interactive experience that awaited them.

With our multimedia material, sensory elements, 3D glasses and special effects, our journey through the planets was as entertaining as it was educational. They were all excited and receptive, they will for sure remember their time in our spacecraft and many of the interesting facts they have learned about the objects of our solar system.

After the Space Journey, their visit ended in the 1:4 scaled model of the Rosetta spacecraft located at the entrance of the facilities, where they learned about this mission and its great achievement, and took a picture to remember this day.

It has been a pleasure to meet you all, we hope to see you again and continue disseminating science.
